Minimalist Packing for a Long Weekend

35 items of clothing, 8 pairs of shoes, 3 bags

Last weekend I travelled to the South West of Australia for three nights. This is an area I travel to regularly, being a few hours drive from my home town of Perth. When I travel there I mostly do forest walks and spend time at the beach. I’ve travelled all over the world and seen some spectacular sights, but the South West is still one of my favourite places. Stay tuned for a couple videos showcasing some of the natural beauty of the region!

I try to pack minimally as I travel. To be honest, I was surprised I was able to fill a small carry on for this trip.

While my clothing and toiletries did not take up a substantial amount of space, other activities did. Items such as my laptop, a backpack, a book and a beach towel added extra weight.

I brought a small amount of clothing and shoes to allow for different weather conditions and activities, a total of five items of clothing and two pairs of shoes.

  • White crop top
  • White drape top
  • Denim shorts
  • Active wear tights
  • Grey ultra light down jacket
  • Thongs
  • Sneakers

A few combinations of the clothing and shoes I brought along

The drive down south is between three and four hours. I wore the shorts, thongs and either top on travel days. If I drive for an extended amount of time I like to do it barefoot, so thongs are the perfect footwear for this purpose. I packed the sneakers for walking activities. The temperature is a lot cooler in the South West, especially in the evenings, so the jacket and tights were necessary. Both of the tops I packed are quite loose, meaning I didn’t have to worry about them getting sweaty, and could wear them more than once.

I keep my toiletries quite simple to save space. I packed a small amount of make up, some body and face wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, cotton buds, deodorant, and some essential oil in place of perfume.

In addition, I brought:

  • Underwear (obviously)
  • Bathers
  • Hat
  • Beach towel
  • Backpack (for walks)
  • A book
  • Laptop
  • Phone and laptop chargers
  • Tripod (for filming breathtaking scenery)

Here is a video that shows my pack in more detail.

Enjoy! ❤

  1. Thanks for liking my post on Midwest Maize. I appreciate your concept here. Our clothing choices differ, but I share your goal of packing as little as possible. I also share your appreciation for the southwest of Australia. Really amazing area. Happy Travels.
