Two Weeks of Outfits in a Minimalist Wardrobe

30 items of clothing, 8 pairs of shoes, 2 bags

Every once in awhile I photograph and record my outfits over a period of time. Today I bring you two weeks of winter outfits.

I like to record my outfits because it reminds me how versatile my wardrobe is, despite its small size. Rather than being limiting, my small wardrobe has allowed me to be more creative with what I wear, and more appreciative of the range of choices one single item presents.

Having a minimalist wardrobe means I have less outfit options than most people, however, being aware of every item I own, I find it very easy to get dressed most days. Eliminating options is actually a very sensible way to limit stress, disorientation and inevitably, frustration, when getting dressed. Whenever I record my outfits, I really appreciate that I do not need a large wardrobe to dress well.

The last time I recorded my outfits was in the Australian summer. This time I present some of my winter options.

I always record my work outfits because this is the place I spend most of my time, and where being dressed appropriately matters the most. During the weekends I wear the same items in different arrangements.

In the images of my outfits you will see:

1 jumpsuit

1 pair of pants

1 skirt

1 dress

2 shirts (one is long, like a dress)

5 knits

3 jackets

1 pair of boots

1 pair of loafers

1 pair of flats

That is a total of 14 items of clothing and 3 pairs of shoes.

If you struggle to figure out what to wear on a recurring basis, taking photographs of a variety of outfits could help you create some go-to looks. In addition, testing my options helps me affirm my personal style. From my experiments I can see what I like, and what I definitely do not. I certainly feel a new sense of enthusiasm for well worn items every time I present myself with this challenge.

Below is a video which shows these outfits in more detail. Subscribe to my YouTube channel for more videos about my small wardrobe. Follow me on Instagram where I post images of my outfits on a daily basis. I also recently started a Facebook account.

  1. Lovely. For work I just wear black jeans/trousers with a black teeshirt, sometimes black dresses. It so simplifies the working week and gives me less to think about. I have done this for 2 years now and it makes life so much easier. I go colourful at weekends/evenings πŸ™‚

Personally, I love looking after my things and I hate wasting money buying unnecessary items but I also like to have bigger wardrobe…

  4. I really enjoy all the posts but for me the choice is really limited since all I have left are t-shirts depicting a variety of craft beers that I wear to work every day :-). I’ve trained my work place well. It meant I got rid of a dozen collared and buttoned shirts, a dress coat, ties, docker trousers, and some other stuff. By year’s end, everything I have left will either fit in a TSA approved carry on bag or be in one box which I will store somewhere when I depart for the life better lived. The one with no work. I cannot wait to see that part of things and how little I will have left.

    1. Thank you! I got the skirt at FCUK and the wool coat is some no brand from Melbourne. My things are from all over the place! You’ll need to read some of the posts in my ‘wardrobe’ category if you want more details. πŸ˜‰
