30 items of clothing, 8 pairs of shoes, 2 bags
I was getting bored with my wardrobe – proof that I am human after all. Two years of white, grey and black was slowly driving me to madness.
There is a secret bohemian inside me, and she has always had a craving for pattern. I, however, had never felt satisfied with the options.
Late last year I spoke about wanting ‘statement’ pieces in my wardrobe. As I neared the end of my shopping budget earlier this year, I sensed I had failed.
‘Next year’, I told myself, ‘next year’.
Then one day late in June, while enjoying a casual afternoon out, I accidentally found a thing of colour and pattern.
It was a green patterned wrap dress made by some local, at a local market. The dress spoke to me. I was ready. I took the plunge.
That same afternoon, I logged into eBay for some legitimate unrelated purpose. I accidentally stumbled upon a used Lacausa dress that I had been intrigued by, but could not afford at the full price. I could definitely afford it at the second hand price.
Both these dresses work in my monotone wardrobe because they are composed of relatively muted hues. Both have a limited palette which means they don’t draw a huge amount of attention to themselves.
Were these purchases a victory or a mistake? Only time can tell. All I know for a fact is that I was anxious about bringing such wild creatures into my life, and the next day I began a six month shopping fast.
Here are some of the ways I’m wearing these dresses over winter.
I wanted to use this opportunity to mention that I listed some of the jewelry from my recent decluttering video on eBay. Click here to check out the selection. It includes the necklace in the photo below. I know some of you loved this piece. I made it myself from metres and metres of sterling silver chain, which explains the cost. Unfortunately, I barely wear it, as it ultimately does not feel like my style.
I am currently doing the 10 x 10 wardrobe challenge, and you can check out my progress on my Instagram account. Follow my Facebook account for minimalist resources and updates. I hope you are doing well today. ❤
I am working on eliminating pieces I don’t need. I set a rule for myself that I won’t buy any new clothes for this year. And in future if I buy any clothes, it needs to be multiple purpose. I think the pattern you choose are great! Not something seasonal or too trendy so you can wear them for long time.

I am in love with that first dress. It’s absolutely gorgeous, classy, and versatile. I loved the way you styled it.

Hi there, fair play to you for going with your instinct and trying something different! I think the two dresses are beautiful but like Natalie’s Alchemy, the first dress is my favourite and looks just beautiful on you. I hope you get a lot of wear and joy out of both, Lxx

Because you can do more than one thing with the wrap dress, I think it will be a good addition. The second dress feels like you IMHO. If you have a simple long sleeved tee, it would be easy to layer under both pieces and use as part of your existing wardrobe.

I love your new additions! They seamlessly work with your other clothes.
Does that make your count 32 pieces of clothing?
Any change with shoes or bags?
