Ten Minimalist Hacks For a Fabulous Wardrobe

30 items of clothing, 8 pairs of shoes, 2 bags

Occasionally, someone will tell me I look fabulous. Thanks guys! It’s really not hard, though. I have created a really simple wardrobe that works well for me and most days I don’t even think about what I am going to wear. I have put a few strategies in place to ensure that getting dressed is easy and low maintenance.

Here are a few key tips for creating and maintaining a fabulous minimalist wardrobe.

Establish your authentic style. Create looks that you love, both in terms of aesthetic and comfort. Stick with the formula. If you don’t get specific about what you like, you will get distracted and make purchases you’ll regret. It might even be a good idea to give your look a catchy name, such as ‘corporate Madonna’ or ‘contemporary Cher’. Sounds silly, but you can use this to your advantage while you shop – does the item fit into the ‘contemporary Cher’ vibe?

Layer items in unexpected combinations. Wear basics with vintage statement pieces. Tuck, roll and tie. Look at the overall silhouette of what you are wearing, and experiment. Achieving the right balance often involves creating an interesting focal point in your outfit.

Look after your clothing appropriately. Discard clothing that has holes, rips and stretches. Remove lint balls, dust and fur as they appear. Store coats and evening wear in garment bags. These little touches will add polish to any outfit you wear.
