Extreme Minimalism? Why I Got Rid of My Couch

30 items of clothing, 7 pairs of shoes, 2 bags

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas! I’m posting a couple of videos before the New Year comes!

After months of procrastination, I finally decided to sell my couch.

Below is a short video discussing my reasons for doing this.

  1. Good on you for taking the plunge and selling your couch. From my past experience, if I’ve been mulling over getting rid of something for a while, the right thing to do is to go ahead and sell it! It seems to always be the best decision if it’s been at the back of my mind. I like your discussion of going against what certain rooms ‘should’ look like. I’ve always lived without a TV and still do to this day. Most people find the concept of a TV-free living room very strange, as if without it the entire room descends into chaos or something!

  2. I respect you for “questioning expectations”.

    Normal sucks.
Normal is ONE thing…a setting on a dryer.
    Keep up the wonderful journey.

  3. I recently sold my couch as I have ordered a better quality one and it is a sofa bed – for guests. But waiting for two weeks for my new couch to arrive I am enjoying the space in my little living room. Just one chair. I feel the room has been liberated . . . .well, for a couple of weeks anyway.

  4. Thanks for the “like” on a recent post of mine. I admire your approach to minimalism. I started my path over eight years ago because I just find clutter abhorrent. I’m so glad that I haven’t owned a couch in over 10 years especially after hearing your ordeal with moving that “massive” couch of yours.
